Criss Cross was a coming of age romance novel in my expression. I felt this all through out the book. Debbie met new people that she expierianced some sort of feeling for in many places. I think the author was trying to show that things can happen where ever you may go.

At the begining of the book Debbie likes a boy named Dan, but so does every other girl at her school. While Debbie is helping Mrs. B, she meets Peter. Peter is Mrs. B's grandson and was staying with her for a week. Over the week Peter and Debbie get to know eachother, and start to absorb feelings for each other. But than Peter has to go back to his home in California. Debbie feels as though her heart has cracked. But one dayher mommy brings a letter that came in the mail...from Peter. They keep in touch and write to eachother. Debbie decides to go to her block party, her friend Hector was there. They were laying in the grass singing together. Debbie wanted something to happen, she wanted sparks to fly like fireworks. But nothing happened that night.

Debbie meets people at many different places and times during the book. I think the author is trying to say tht things can happen at any point in time. Wether it be love, hate, tragity, or excelantsy, things may happen when least expected.
